No more live music @ The Empress

Fitzroy’s longstanding pub, The Empress Hotel, will re-open next month. Unfortunately for punters and musicians, live music won’t be a feature anymore, as the once iconic band room will be replaced with a beer garden.

Apply now for Push Songs 2015

Applications are now open for Push Songs 2015. Presented by The Push, APRA AMCOS, Arts Victoria and The Australia Council, the free song writing mentoring program will take place across February and March. Successful Victorian applicants will take part in three one-on-one song writing workshops, with mentors including Mark Seymour and Adalita. Applications close Friday January 30 and you can apply via surveymonkey.com/s/PS2015R1

‘Count Us In’ applications open now for students

‘Count Us In’ is a nationwide student song writing competition, offering students the chance to collaborate and co-write a song with an Australian superstar. The 2015 competition is now open and entries close on Tuesday February 20. New digital radio station that only plays unsigned artists

Thanks to Australia’s Radio Network’s iHeart Radio platform, a new digital radio station has been made available. Nodding off? Keep reading; this isn’t any ordinary radio station. Unsigned Bands only plays unsigned Aussie artists. Listen, register and submit your tunes at www.unsignedbands.com.au

Join Melbourne’s newest online social hub now for your chance to win

Check out EatNoise, Melbourne’s new online social hub for musicians and fans. Featuring a gig guide (artists can publish all their gig info) and an easy interactive platform, EatNoise is a free networking opportunity for bands, fans and live music operators. Melbourne musicians who join the online community before Australia Day (Jan 26) will be in the running to win either a video clip or photo shoot with esteemed photographer and videographer Andrew Watson. ‘The Artist,’ Wednesday January 21, The Toff in Town.

Presented by STEP (Society of Tastemakers & Elegant People), ‘The Artist’ is an exciting panel event, featuring Remi, Oscar Key Sung and Chela. The panelists will discuss their personal journeys as musicians, touching upon inspirations, song writing, promotion and touring. Songwriter sessions, Sunday January 18, Brunswick Hotel, 5-7pm.

Presented by The Taste of Indie Collective, The Songwriter Sessions is a monthly spring/summer interactive event. The sessions follow a line-up of three songwriters on stage playing songs and discussing the inspiration and process behind their music. This month’s line-up includes Kill TV’s Kat Orgovany and singer-songwriter and guitarist Lee Jones.
